Somewhere around 1160 m. high, in one of the most beautiful slopes of Pindos, the traditional stone houses of Metsovo begin to appear, with their beautiful roofs and wooden porches, surrounded by trees and accompanied by the smell of mouth-watering titbits from the taverns!
The downhill road ends to a wide stone path leading to the main square full of life all year round. Metsovo was first mentioned in 1380 AD at the time of Philanthropists and Proclus Komninos.
Originally it was a small settlement of shepherds but its important geographical position has ensured special preferential treatment and accelerated the development even in difficult times.
You should pay a visit to the Art Gallery of Evangelos Averof located at the back of the central square and housed in a beautiful traditional building with stunning views of the opposite mountain peaks, The first stop for the visitors usually takes place in the large and beautiful church of Agia Paraskevi on the main square of .
You can also look for the Gina mill, the Averof Garden, and the monasteries of the Assumption, St. Nicholas and Red Stone. All are within walking distance and worth a visit.
